#587, 8:43 AM. I’m calling this a hybrid because it’s a union of two separate observational drawings done on my iPad in two cities, Glendale and Silver Lake that are both in Southern California. If you get a chance, Silver Lake has a great pizza joint called Tomato Pie just off of Hyperion Avenue .
10:25 AM, Glendale, CA. Another shop window display from the same bookstore. I found the painted shooting star an intriguing graphic element “surprinted” over the rows of vintage books. On a side note, the store employee is from Kyoto so that led to an interesting conversation.
10:23 AM, Glendale, CA. I’m a fan of used bookstores and this caught my eye in a bookshop’s window. There’s a competition between the visage of Liz Taylor and the Japanese doll that brings additional meaning to a banal event. I also noticed the interplay of the shop’s display and the reflection on the glass that echoed a view through a veil. It was also an accidental way of creating a double exposure technique that was commonly used in film cameras.
#585, 9:09AM. In creating images, I will often look for combinations of elements that work well with each other. This one with the flying figure and vintage hot rod works for me because of their similar directions of angles.
10:28 AM, Los Angeles, CA. I spotted the Man of Steel in front of the Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles the other day. It was an unplanned opportunity for several of us as you can see from the other photographer getting in her own shot.
#582, 8:53 AM. This is an appropriation of sorts using digitally drawing from various references such as the “Magnum Force” title sequence, several pulp paperback book covers, and digital snapshots that I shot on a trip to Dallas earlier this year. More guns.
8:48 AM, Pasadena, CA. More guns! A snapshot of arcade firearms against a hand painted landscape of grass and shrubs. Now that’s an interesting juxtaposition.
11:32 AM, Altadena, CA. I have a soft spot for the Dirty Harry franchise that starred Clint Eastwood. This happens to be a screen shot from the “Magnum Force” title sequence. I like the simplicity of the composition, just a firearm on a striking blood red background. In a few moments, the view changes from a profile to a direct view down the barrel of the gun.
