10:52 AM, Altadena, CA. I liked the manicured bushes that I saw in various spots in downtown Los Angeles. Even though shaped hedges are the epitome of landscaping banality, they were exciting to use in this piece.

12:00 PM, Los Angeles, CA. I like to do image “window shopping” by shooting snapshots through store windows. Interesting reflections and unexpected highlights occur and that is good. This was probably from a poster for a cosmetic company.

Mixed Up at 3:11 PM, Altadena, CA. I’m still in the “cannibalization” mode. The weird combination of my snapshots using Jackie Chan and rocks from a Japanese garden was the basis for a mixed media painting.

Odd Coupling at 11:51 AM, Altadena, CA. I was thinking about strange couples and for me, an interesting combination was a book by Man Ray and my old Nintendo Entertainment System.

8:15 AM, Altadena, CA. This Nintendo Entertainment system is still in working order. I wonder how many of these are still around. I can’t get over the effectiveness of the simple graphics. No extreme visual tomfoolery with excessive modeling, ultra-rendering, and worm-eye views, just simple, flat, straightforward visual information.

12:08 PM, Altadena, CA. I like images that provoke weird alliances or in this case, unusual disruptions. Here, ramen meets a custom car. The car was in a postcard that I picked up at the Pasadena City College swap meet in Pasadena, CA. The initial combination was not calculated but the final result with the disintegration of the car was.

9:46 AM, Altadena, CA. I’m not a photographer but I take a lot of pictures. What attracts me are the commonplace. In my house, bags of ramen fall into the commonplace. That’s a good reason to shoot it.
